Whenever I travel, I like to adapt to the environment that I am in. I try to learn a few key phrases in the native language.

I try to learn a few prayers which come in handy when you are going to mass in another country.

Be it for a family gathering, a wedding, or even a funeral, praying in another language is amazing. It feels deeply spiritual and connects you with the people who came before us.

In case you missed it, here is the Lord's Prayer (Our Father) in German.

Here is how to offer a sign of peace in German for a Catholic mass:

Peace be with you in German

Peace be with you - Friede sei mit dir

Sign of Peace in German

Sign of Peace - Der Friedensgruß

P: The peace of the Lord be with you always. - Der Friede des Herrn sei allezeit mit euch.
A: And with your spirit. - Und mit deinem Geiste.

P: Let us offer each other a sign of peace - Gebt einander ein Zeichen des Friedens
(Offerte vobis pacem.)

A: Shake hands (Handschlags) and say Peace be with you - Der Friede sei mit dir
A: And also with you - Und auch mit dir

(P = Pfarrer/Priest; A =  Alle/All)

Have you ever attended a mass in another language?
