As you probably know by now, I speak 7 languages fluently.
I speak many more conversationally and am always learning new phrases. A lot of people think that you have to be bilingual from birth in order to be a polyglot. Of course, it helps to already have an understanding of how another language works, but it's not necessary. You can absolutely become fluent in another language FAST and at home. And not to be super click-bait-y but the truth is that the fastest way to learn another language is... Be motivated by love.
Along the lines of what Jack Johnson sings, love really is the answer to most of the questions in the world. That might seem incredibly hyperbolic but I think it's accurate.
From my own language learning experience, if there was a foreign guy in the picture, I learned his language as fast as I possibly could! I would go all in and have the best time exploring all of the dimensions of the language by being able to learn how to have conversations beyond the basics - which included actual romantic language, idiomatic phrases, and an understanding of the culture on a much more personal level. When your partner is from another country, you want to learn all about their culture and (if you're like me), their language. Being able to communicate with someone in their mother tongue is priceless. Let's say your partner is Swedish. Do you speak Swedish? Would you be able to have a conversation with someone about what you did yesterday, what you plan to do next weekend, and what your goals are for the future? If you couldn't use your native language (especially for the native English speakers out there), would you be able to express yourself the way you'd want to in that other language? That's why, I believe love is the number 1 fastest motivation for language learning. Maybe you want to learn Arabic because you want to be able to communicate with your family. You love your family and by speaking their language, you are showing them love. Or maybe, you've fallen in love with a guy from Croatia and you want to be able to understand him by learning about his culture. That's straight up romantic love. You don't have to be from the same country or even speak the same language to fall in love with someone. And it's so much fun to have a language partner that you can practice the language with as much as you want. When you get to know someone from another country, you're going to want to meet their family and/or visit their home country. Being in an international relationship means that your partner's family may not speak the same language as you do. You might be sitting at the family dinner table, completely clueless as to what topic they are even discussing, and unable to participate in the conversation. You might have to rely on someone to be an interpreter for you. Eventually - you'll realize you want to learn the language so you can communicate with everyone! I learned multiple languages (FAST) by being motivated by love. My Croatian husband loves to say that I became fluent in Croatian, just six months into dating, after I spent less than one month in Zagreb, Croatia visiting him. Studying another language is not at all impossible - it is possible to learn a 2nd, 3rd, 4th + language and love to help people succeed in their language learning journey. There are limited spots available for our New Student Special so make to check out it out before all of the spots are taken! Leave a comment below or e-mail me if you have any questions. Do you think there's any faster way to learn another language? Have you ever fallen in love with someone who speaks a different language than you?
